Using modified equipment in children's sport is not a new idea.  Many sports have been using smaller pitches, lighter balls, shorter bats, lower hoops and other learning aids for many years.  Following international best practice and providing modified equipment to beginners (regardless of age) makes learning tennis an enjoyable experience from the start.

There are three kinds of low-compression balls – red, orange and green – which are all softer and bounce lower than a yellow ball. Because they bounce lower, players have more time to hit them, which allows better control and helps kids develop correct stroke technique.

Suitably sized racquets for children ensure individuals are able to control the ball  and have rallies at a much earlier stage.

Investing in modified balls and racquets can result in a 'win win' for families and friends who may be at varying ages and stages of ability. Everyone can participate and enjoy tennis together - less of the one hit rallies and instead, players get a real feel for playing tennis which helps feed the desire to continue playing.

Tennis Southland is sponsored by HEAD who supply low compression and ATP balls for all Tennis Southland events. When purchasing HEAD balls in Southland please remember to inform the stockist of the club you represent.
